About Us

We are FlightLab MUC e.V., a student association dedicated to building efficient and cutting-edge UAVs.

Our work brings together students from various fields of study, faculty members, and aviation enthusiasts who are interested in the development and construction of unmanned aircraft. As part of various projects, we work for different companies or participate in international competitions. In doing so, we independently manage the entire development process: from the initial idea, through calculations and simulations, to manufacturing and flight tests. Dealing with real-world technical problems in a practical way is our top priority.
Our team consists of students from fields such as aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and related disciplines, as well as faculty members and aviation enthusiasts, with each person taking on responsibility in their respective area, whether it be design, construction, aerodynamics, avionics, manufacturing, or organization. Through close collaboration, we learn from one another and continuously develop our technical and organizational skills.
For us, FlightLab serves as a complement to our studies or careers, allowing us to gain practical experience and work independently. Mistakes are just as much a part of the process as successes. We particularly value teamwork, the direct practical relevance, and the exchange with other international teams in the competition.
We are supported by Munich University of Applied Sciences, as well as by partners and sponsors from industry who make our work possible and guide us along the way.

The results are in:
Our proposal achieved a score of 65, placing us 91st out of 175 submissions. This means we have qualified for the fly-off on April 16-19, 2026 in Wichita, Kansas. The next step is now the design report, which must be submitted by February 20.

Proposal submitted:
Towards the end of October, we submitted our proposal for the DBF 2026 competition and are eagerly awaiting the results of the ranking.

End of prototyping phase:
With our gained expertise from our previous prototypes we are now fully focused on the recently published mission parameters for DBF 2026.
Aug,
2025
First test run:
We will design and build various prototypes by the end of August to get ready for the AIAA challenge details in September.

2026
Test flights completed:
Our aircraft has successfully completed its first two test flights and is now in the fine-tuning phase.

Failed test flight and crash:
At our third test flight, our right aileron failed due to material failure. The aircraft became uncontrollable and took a nosedive into the ground. It lead to the irreparable destruction of the airframe. Unfortunately, this accident means that we no longer have an aircraft to present at the AIAA D/B/F competition.
